Build

Peter Quill – aka Star Lord – has a pair of these iconic weapons. I’d made a mental note to put a Quad Blaster together and finally got around to it.

All of the parts were printed on the AnyCubic Kobra 2 Max from PLA and required only minimal sanding and filling of the rounded top and bottom sections to be ready for glue and primer.

Everything fitted together really well and I only needed to take the finest margins off with sanding to get everything to slot together correctly. The largest sections were done first and I made the decision to hide the joints between the pieces, these could have been left as panel lines and I think if I were to do another of these I’d try that look out. All of the larger pieces had keys designed in and were SO easy to sling as a result! The two halves of the grip also has keys integrated into the design so they were also very easy to glue together, a quick rub over with 240 grit sandpaper and everything was ready for paint!

Finish

Everything got a coat of primer and I then batched up the bits based on colour. The main body elements got an all over silver base with black acrylic spray over the top to allow me to put some surface scratches in and show the silver through.

The grip got a black base coat and I then used a piece of the checker pattern grip-cloth you can buy for dashboards etc., wrapped around the grip with a light over-spray of silver to give the carbon fibre look. I’ve got to admit I’m pretty chuffed with the result. When all of the painted pieces were dry it was just a 20 minute job to glue them all in place with CA glue.

Weathering was done with a black acrylic wash some old bits of sandpaper and I airbrushed on some additional dirt and scorch marks.
